Free ATS résumé checker

Paste the text of your résumé to check it against the rules applicant tracking systems commonly use to parse résumés. Add a job description too and it will check keyword coverage. You get a score and a checklist, with a one-line fix for anything that needs attention.

Runs in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded, stored or sent to an AI. Free, with no sign-up.

Your score and checklist appear here. Nothing leaves this page.

How it works

  1. Copy the text of your résumé from your Word document or PDF and paste it in. Copying from the file is a useful test in itself: if the text comes out jumbled, a parser may read it the same way.
  2. Optionally paste the job description and the file name you plan to upload.
  3. The checker runs 13 to 15 rules in your browser: contact details, standard headings, length, date formats, bullets, quantified results, pronouns, bullet length, tables and columns, icons, file name and keyword coverage.
  4. Each check gets pass, warn or fail, weighted by how much it tends to affect parsing. The score is the weighted share of checks passed.

Everything happens on this page. There is no server call, no AI model and no database: close the tab and your text is gone.

What the checks are based on

Most ATS parsers turn your résumé into plain text, then look for familiar patterns: an email address and phone number near the top, headings such as Experience and Education, job titles followed by dates. Anything that breaks those patterns, such as text in tables, side-by-side columns, icons in place of words, or creative headings, makes it more likely that fields come out empty or wrong.

The checks here look for those patterns in the text you paste. They are deliberately simple and transparent, so you can see exactly why something passed or failed. Our guide to how ATS screening works explains what happens after parsing, and why a person usually makes the final decision.

This is a simulation of common parsing rules, not a copy of any particular ATS. Workday, Greenhouse, Lever and others all parse differently, and employers configure them differently. Treat the score as a checklist, not a prediction.

Frequently asked questions

Is this ATS checker really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no limit and no paid tier. It runs in your browser, so it costs us nothing to run and we never see your résumé.

Is my résumé uploaded anywhere?

No. The checks are plain JavaScript running on this page. Your text is not sent to a server, not stored and not passed to an AI model. Closing the tab clears it.

What is a good ATS score?

Aim to clear every fail and most warnings; a score above about 80 usually means the basics are in place. The number itself matters less than the individual checks, because real systems don't give your résumé a single score in the same way.

Can I check a PDF or Word file directly?

Paste the text instead. Open the file, select all and copy. If the pasted text comes out in the wrong order or with missing parts, that is a sign a parser could struggle with the file too, which is worth knowing.

Does a high score mean I'll get past the ATS?

Not on its own. Many rejections come from knockout questions on the application form, or from a recruiter deciding the experience doesn't fit. A clean résumé makes sure the right information reaches them. See how ATS screening works.

Should I add keywords from the job description?

Only the ones that are true. Use the job ad's exact wording for skills you really have, because recruiters search for those terms. Adding skills you don't have tends to fall apart at interview. The résumé keyword scanner shows what's missing.
