Auto-apply to jobs in the UK
Last updated 4 min read
To auto-apply to jobs in the UK, use a two-page CV without a photo or date of birth, answer right to work and sponsorship questions accurately, and state your notice period and salary expectation in pounds. Applysent finds UK roles inside your filters, tailors your CV to each posting and completes the employer's own application form, with your approval or on autopilot.
What UK employers expect from a CV
In the UK the document is called a CV, and two pages is the usual length. Most UK CVs open with a short personal profile of three or four lines, followed by work experience in reverse order, then education and skills.
Leave out your photo, date of birth, marital status and nationality. Age, race, sex, religion and marriage are protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010, so employers generally don't want information that could suggest a biased decision. You also don't need to list referees; "references available on request" is optional and many people drop it.
UK forms often ask for a separate supporting statement or a short answer about why you want the role. Our guide on writing answers to screening questions covers how to keep those specific and honest.
Right to work: what UK forms ask and why
Every UK employer must check that a new hire has the right to work in the UK before they start. That's why almost every UK application form asks some version of these questions:
- "Do you have the right to work in the UK?"
- "Will you now or in the future require visa sponsorship to work in the UK?"
- "What is your immigration status?" (for example British or Irish citizen, settled or pre-settled status, a visa with work rights)
Many people now prove their status online with a share code from GOV.UK rather than a paper document. If you need a visa to take the job, the employer must hold a sponsor licence for routes such as the Skilled Worker visa. The Home Office publishes the register of licensed sponsors on GOV.UK, which is a quick way to check whether an employer can sponsor at all.
The official source for UK visas and right to work is the Home Office, via GOV.UK. This page is general information, not immigration advice.
For how to word these answers consistently, read work authorisation and sponsorship questions. If you are looking specifically for sponsored roles, see how to find jobs that sponsor visas.
Notice periods and salary on UK forms
UK contracts commonly carry a notice period of one month, and three months is common for senior roles. Forms ask for it because it decides your earliest start date. Give the period in your current contract, not the one you hope to negotiate.
Salary is quoted as an annual gross figure in pounds, for example £45,000, and London roles are often advertised higher than the same role elsewhere. Many UK job ads show a salary or range, which makes a salary floor in Applysent more useful than in markets where pay is rarely published. See salary expectations on application forms for how to answer.
Expect an optional equal opportunities monitoring section as well. It is kept separate from the shortlisting decision, and "prefer not to say" is always an option.
Which hiring systems do UK employers use?
Third-party technology tracking for the UK and Europe shows Recruitee, Workable, SmartRecruiters and Teamtailor among the most widely used systems, with Teamtailor particularly strong in Britain. Applysent applies today on Recruitee, Workable, Teamtailor, SmartRecruiters, Lever, Ashby, Greenhouse, Workday, Oracle Recruiting Cloud and JazzHR.
Because Applysent applies on the employer's own form, it doesn't matter which job board you found the role on. It does not apply through LinkedIn Easy Apply or Indeed.
Setting your Applysent filters for the UK
| Filter | Suggested UK setting |
|---|---|
| Country and cities | United Kingdom, plus cities such as London, Manchester, Edinburgh or Bristol if you want on-site or hybrid work |
| Remote | Remote with the UK as the country, if you want UK-based remote roles only |
| Salary floor | An annual figure in GBP. Roles below it, or without pay listed in GBP, are skipped |
| Visa sponsorship | On, if you need a Skilled Worker or similar sponsored visa |
| Right to work and notice | Answered once in onboarding and reused on every form |
Review mode is the default way to start: nothing is sent until you approve it, and you can edit the tailored CV or any answer first. Every submitted application gets a receipt showing the fields filled in and the text written for free-text questions.
Frequently asked questions
Is a CV the same as a résumé in the UK?
In practice, yes. UK employers say CV and expect about two pages; the US résumé is usually shorter.
Should I include a photo on a UK CV?
No. UK CVs normally leave out the photo, date of birth and marital status.
How do I answer the sponsorship question if I'm on a Graduate visa?
The question usually covers the future. If you'll need a sponsored visa once your current one ends, the honest answer is normally yes. Check details on GOV.UK.
Can Applysent handle UK equal opportunities questions?
Yes. You set your preferred answers in your profile, including "prefer not to say", and Applysent uses them where a form asks.
Will UK employers know I used Applysent?
They receive a normal application through their own form. Applysent doesn't claim to be undetectable, and if an employer asks whether you used AI tools, answer honestly.
Let Applysent send the applications. You take the interviews.
