Engineering Intern
Role Purpose / Mission
The Engineering Intern supports the engineering team in improving manufacturing processes, equipment performance, and overall operational efficiency. This role provides hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment while contributing to real-world projects that align with Webco’s commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist engineers with process improvement initiatives to enhance safety, quality, and productivity
- Support data collection, analysis, and reporting for manufacturing performance metrics
- Create and update technical documentation, standard work instructions, and drawings
- Participate in troubleshooting equipment and process issues alongside engineering and maintenance teams
- Assist with time studies, workflow analysis, and capacity evaluations
- Support capital projects, including equipment installation, layout planning, and commissioning activities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, maintenance, and quality
- Observe and document current processes to identify opportunities for improvement
- Maintain organized project files, reports, and engineering documentation
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts and team meetings
Required & Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or related field)
- Basic knowledge of engineering principles and problem-solving techniques
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Strong willingness to learn and work in a manufacturing environment
Preferred:
- Previous internship, co-op, or hands-on project experience
- Exposure to CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar)
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes or industrial environments
- Experience with data analysis tools or basic programming
Typical Physical Demands
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
- Frequent use of a computer and standard office equipment
- Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds
- Ability to access manufacturing areas, including climbing stairs or ladders
- Visual acuity to review data, drawings, and equipment
Typical Working Conditions
- Combination of office and manufacturing floor environment
- Exposure to noise, heat, dust, and moving equipment when in plant areas
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in operational environments
- Close interaction with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams
- Work performed under supervision with increasing responsibility over time
