The Billing Clerk provides administrative support to the billing team to ensure accurate claims processing and client records. Performs data entry, document uploads, eligibility verification, and basic billing tasks across multiple programs. Strives to maintain accurate data in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system and proactively resolve simple issues that may delay billing. Supports a high volume of routine tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

DUTIES

SUMMARY

The Billing Clerk provides administrative support to the billing team to ensure accurate claims processing and client records. Performs data entry, document uploads, eligibility verification, and basic billing tasks across multiple programs. Strives to maintain accurate data in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system and proactively resolve simple issues that may delay billing. Supports a high volume of routine tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Uploads billing-related documentation into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and verifies completeness and accuracy

Enters and updates client demographic, service, and insurance information in the EHR or billing systems

Supports eligibility verification processes by assisting with COVIVITAS reports or similar tools

Prepares basic billing forms and checklists for review by Billing Coordinators

Follows up on assigned data clean-up tasks (e.g., missing authorizations, benefit updates)

Organizes and maintains digital records to support audit readiness and compliance requirements

Responds to routine inquiries from program staff related to client records, forms, or billing status

Provides general administrative support to the billing team, including cross-coverage during absences

Participates in department trainings and team meetings to stay updated on billing procedures

Maintains confidentiality of client information and adhere to HIPAA guidelines

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

Other duties and special projects as assigned.

This role has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED required. Associate’s degree in business, health administration, or related field preferred.

Minimum of one (1) year experience in billing, eligibility, medical office administration, or related field preferred.

Experience with Electronic Health Records or billing software preferred.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to handle confidential information.

Maintains client and employee privacy, including protecting the confidentiality, safeguarding the integrity and availability, and limiting the use and disclosure of patient Protected Health Information (PHI) to authorized individuals and entities.

Reliable transportation to and from worksites as needed.

Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Participates in, conducts, and sustains performance quality improvement activities according to designated role and responsibilities.

Sensitivity to service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

COMPUTER SKILLS

EHR systems

Microsoft Office programs in a Windows environment, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.

COMPENSATION:

$23.88 USD - $28.66 USD

In accordance with California law, the expected pay range for this position is included in this posting. The actual compensation will be determined based on factors permitted by law. New hires will be offered a salary at the starting point of the range to maintain internal inequity and allow opportunity for future salary growth. CII salaries are determined based on comprehensive internal and external market analysis, as well as the skills, education, and experience relevant to each position.
