Auto-apply to jobs in Australia
Last updated 4 min read
To auto-apply to jobs in Australia, use a two to three-page résumé without a photo, answer the working rights question exactly, and know whether a salary is quoted as base plus super or as a total package. Applysent finds Australian roles inside your filters, tailors your résumé to each one and fills in the employer's own form, after you approve it or automatically on autopilot.
Résumé conventions in Australia
Australians use "résumé" and "CV" interchangeably. Two to three pages is normal, a little longer than a US résumé, and a short career summary at the top is expected. Don't include a photo, date of birth or marital status.
Referees are more prominent than in the US or UK. Many employers contact two referees, usually former managers, late in the process. You can write "referees available on request" and keep their details ready rather than listing them on every application.
Public sector roles are different. Australian government applications often ask for responses to key selection criteria or a one to two-page pitch addressing the role's capabilities. Those are long, specific free-text answers; the advice in writing answers to screening questions applies, at greater length.
The working rights question
Almost every Australian form asks "Do you have full working rights in Australia?" or asks you to pick your status from a list. The usual options are:
- Australian citizen or permanent resident: full working rights.
- New Zealand citizen: generally able to live and work in Australia.
- Temporary visa with work rights, such as a graduate or working holiday visa: limited by date or conditions, so say so.
- Requires sponsorship: you would need the employer to sponsor a visa, such as the subclass 482 employer-sponsored visa.
Employers can confirm a visa holder's work entitlements online through VEVO, so accuracy matters. Working holiday makers should state their visa end date, since some employers only hire for roles that fit inside it. Our guide on work authorisation and sponsorship questions shows how to phrase each case.
The official source for Australian visas and work rights is the Department of Home Affairs at homeaffairs.gov.au. This page is general information, not migration advice.
Base plus super or package? Reading Australian pay
Employers in Australia must pay superannuation, a retirement contribution, on top of most employees' wages. Job ads quote pay in one of two ways, and mixing them up can cost you thousands of dollars a year:
| Wording in the ad | What it means |
|---|---|
| $110,000 + super | Base salary of $110,000, with super paid on top |
| $110,000 package (or total remuneration, or incl. super) | Super comes out of the $110,000, so the base salary is lower |
| $55 per hour + super | Hourly rate, common for contract roles, with super on top |
When a form asks for your expected salary, say which basis you mean, for example "$110,000 plus super". Salary expectations on application forms covers how to pick the number.
Notice periods in Australia are commonly between two and four weeks, set by your contract or award. Give the figure in your current contract.
Which hiring systems Australian employers use
Third-party technology tracking for Australia and New Zealand shows BambooHR, Workable and SmartRecruiters among the most widely used international systems. A sizeable share of larger employers use Workday, SAP SuccessFactors or Taleo, and some use local systems such as PageUp, JobAdder and Employment Hero.
Applysent applies today on Workable, SmartRecruiters, Workday, Lever, Ashby, Recruitee, Greenhouse, Oracle Recruiting Cloud, Teamtailor and JazzHR. BambooHR is coming soon. Applysent doesn't apply through PageUp, JobAdder, Employment Hero, LinkedIn Easy Apply or Indeed, so roles hosted only on those won't be applied to.
Setting up Applysent for Australia
- Location: Australia, plus Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth or Adelaide for hybrid or on-site roles.
- Remote: choose remote with Australia as the country. Time zones matter here; a "remote" role based in Perth works different hours from one in Sydney.
- Salary floor: in AUD. Roles below it, or without pay listed in AUD, are skipped. Many ads give no salary, so a high floor narrows matches sharply.
- Sponsorship: turn it on if you need an employer-sponsored visa.
- Working rights and notice: answer once in onboarding; Applysent reuses them on every form.
Review mode lets you check every tailored résumé and answer before it goes. Each application gets a receipt, and the tracker shows statuses from Applied through to Offer. If you want to understand the volume side, read how many jobs you should apply to.
Frequently asked questions
Should I include referees on my Australian résumé?
It's optional. Many people write "referees available on request" and share contact details when an employer asks, usually near the end of the process.
Does a salary that includes super mean I get less?
Your base pay is lower than the headline figure, because super is taken out of the package. Compare offers on the same basis.
Can I apply on a working holiday visa?
Yes, but state your visa type and end date honestly. Some employers only hire people whose work rights cover the full role.
Can Applysent answer key selection criteria?
Applysent answers custom free-text questions from your profile. For long government selection criteria, use review mode and edit the drafts before approving.
Does Applysent apply to jobs on SEEK?
Applysent doesn't use job board apply buttons. It applies on the employer's own hiring system form when the role is hosted on a supported system.
